To Kill A Tiger
Frankfurtpremiere
Ranjit, a farmer in Jharkhand, India, takes up the fight of his life as he demands justice for his 13-year-old daughter who was the victim of a brutal gang rape.
In India, where a rape is reported every 20 minutes and the conviction rate is less than 30 per cent, Ranjit's decision to stand up for his daughter in court is virtually unique and his journey unprecedented. The villagers and their leaders put massive pressure on Ranjit to drop the charges. They demand that the girl marry one of her rapists - a tried and tested solution in the community. They believe this is the only way to restore the girl's honour and that of the community. Ranjit resists and embarks on a perilous journey of ups and downs, navigating the maze of Indian courts as he navigates the growing dangers in his village.
The Documentary "To Kill a Tiger" shows the emotional journey of an ordinary man caught in extraordinary circumstances - a father whose love for his daughter forces a social reckoning that will reverberate for years to come.
