Jayant Digambar Somalkar's feature film debut depicts the journey of Savita, a young woman striving for an education and a better future - against the odds of a patriarchal society that sees arranged marriage as the only way to self-realization. “Sthal” is a subtle yet poignant drama that explores the joys and sorrows in the lives of young people trying to make their own way. The director shot the film in his home village in rural Maharashtra and worked mainly with debutant actors from his village.
