Marriage Cops

Dokumentarfillm/Frankfurtpremiere in Kooperation mit Deutsch-Indische Zusammenarbeit e.V. Frankfurt

Marriage counseling conducted by police? Sounds absurd. In rural northern India, it's the reality—the Women's Helpline's unconventional solution to a very real problem.

In a small town in northern India, unhappy couples seek solutions to their marital problems in the most unlikely of places—the local police station. There, a team of dedicated female police officers attempt to restore harmony to marriages with a mixture of carrot and stick, leading to unpredictable results. On the opposite side of the desk sit couples desperate and broken-hearted. There are unhappy lovers fighting over money, children, and what lies ahead; charges of infidelity and emotional neglect; the collision between traditional values and modern existence. All these conflicts unfold within the tight, confining spaces of a police station...
